README.TXT: Tornado 2.2.1 / VxWorks 5.5.1 v0303 Please read the Tornado 2.2.1/VxWorks 5.5.1 Release Notes shipped with the product. It contains important information regarding host requirements, host patches, installation and run-time issues. Up-to-date product bulletins, information on known problems and fixes/changes made in this release, and essential reference documentation such as the release notes, getting started guide, and migration guide can be obtained from the Wind River Tornado 2.2 Support Web Page: http://www.windriver.com/corporate/support/prodbullet/T2.2 Installation: ----------------- If you are a system administrator installing license management on a server, see the Tornado Getting Started Guide: Installing and Configuring a License Server. If you are an end-user installing Tornado 2.2.1 on your own machine, be sure you are installing on a supported host that meets the minimum system requirements given below for both hardware and software, including patch levels: Windows: - Windows NT 4.0 with SP 5 or higher, Windows 2000 Professional or XP Professional. - Administrator rights. - 128 MB RAM minimum, 256 MB highly recommended. - 300 MB disk space for typical installation. - Intel Pentium; 400 MHz or better. Recommended: Pentium III at 650 MHz. - CD-ROM drive for installation. - A network interface card for debugging over a network is recommended. - Netscape 4.5 or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher (one of these browsers at this level or higher must be installed.) - TCP/IP must be installed on the host system even if it is being used as a standalone PC with a serial connection to the target (TCP/IP is generally installed by default with Windows; consult your Windows documentation or your System Administrator for more information). - If you will be using the VxSim Full Simulator with Networking, you will need to install a ULIP network interface after installing Tornado. Instructions can be found in the VxWorks BSP Reference under "simpc". UNIX: - The Solaris 2.7, 2.8, or 2.9 operating systems are supported: - on all machines, prior to installing Tornado be certain to have an updated set of Sun patches installed, available from http://sunsolve.sun.com. - On Solaris 2.8 and 2.9, only 32-bit mode is supported - Tornado will not run properly if your host machine is set to ***-bit mode. - An Ultra5/360 or better is highly recommended. - 128 MB RAM minimum, 256 MB highly recommended. - 300 MB disk space for a typical installation. - A CD-ROM drive for installation. - Netscape 4.5 or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher must be in your path (Internet Explorer is available for Solaris at: http://www.microsoft.com ) - CDE Window Manager is recommended. In addition, fvwm2 has been tested with success. Some installations of KDE do not work with Tornado. If you have difficulties using an alternative window manager, return to the supported window manager. - If you will be using the VxSim Full Simulator with Networking, you will need to install a PPP network interface after installing Tornado. Instructions can be found in the VxWorks BSP Reference under "solaris". Licensing: ---------------- Tornado 2.2.1 and some optional tools require a valid license. If you are installing on a host with access to the Internet, SETUP (the setup and installation program) configures the license for you, but before you start SETUP you'll need to know: - Whether the software you are installing requires a license (Tornado 2.2.1 requires a license; some optional tools do not). - If a license is required, which type you wish to use: network, floating or node-locked (refer to your purchase order). - If you will be using a network or floating license, a license server must be installed on a host in your network. See the Tornado Getting Started Guide: Installing and Configuring a License Server and consult with your system administrator. If you do not have Internet access you will need to contact Wind River directly, as described in the Tornado Getting Started Guide. Installing with Previous Versions of Tornado: --------------------------------------------------------------------- If you plan to install Tornado 2.2.1 on a host that has another version of Tornado installed, see the Tornado Release Notes for information about correctly installing alongside your current version. SETUP will not allow the installation of a new Tornado on top of an existing Tornado tree. Note that Tornado 2.2.1 is a complete new installation of Tornado; if you have an existing Tornado 2.2 installation and simply wish to upgrade it in-place to the 2.2.1 level, you should *not* install this CD and instead should install the Tornado 2.2.1 Patch ("CP-1") on top of your current Tornado 2.2 tree. Installation Keys: -------------------------- Installation keys are case-sensitive and are printed on the Installation Keys sheet in the Getting Started portfolio shipped with the Tornado 2.2.1 CD-ROM(s).
