XFPROT up to and including version 0.19beta was based upon the XSTEP-3.5.1 library (C) 1996-2001 by Marcelo Samsoniuk and collaborators, downloadable at http://xstep.sourceforge.net/ and released under the LGPL license. Starting from version 0.20beta XFPROT is based upon Gtk+ 1.2 libraries. From version 1.0-rc2 it is also possible to use the Gtk+ 2.2 libraries. XFPROT is tested only on Linux (Mandrake 9.0 ,9.1, 9.2, 10.0) but probably should compile and work also on other distributions, on some *BSD's and on other Unixes. Xfprot's homepage is http://web.tiscali.it/sharp/xfprot INSTALLATION First of all you need yo compile the XSTEP-3.5.1 library. INSTALLING XSTEP WARNING!! This is obsolete now, get the Gtk+ 1.2.10 or Gtk+ 2.x libraries (runtime and development) instead, if they are not already installed on your system and jump to the XFPROT install instructions. Download it at http://xstep.sourceforge.net/ AND extract it: tar -zxvf xstep-3.5.1.tar.gz To compile the XSTEP library,cd to the library dir su root (and provide root password if prompted) cd xstep-3.5.1 cd library and just type: make Your system must be a unix-like system and must have the X headers and libraries (X11R6 is recommended), any 32 bit C compiler w/ support for shared libraries (GCC is recomended) and any 'make' (GNU and BSD makes are recommended). If you don't receive any error message, a shared library will be generated in the directory 'library'. You can install this library (and XSTEP headers) typing: make install You can uninstall XSTEP any time with: su root (and provide root password if prompted) make uninstall /sbin/ldconfig INSTALLING XFPROT Download it at http://web.tiscali.it/sharp/xfprot and extract it: tar -zxvf xfprot-xx.tar.gz To compile xfprot ,cd to the xfprot dir and just type: su root (and provide root password if prompted) ./configure The configure script if used in a non interactive mode accepts this command line options: -h, --help print this help, then exit --with-gtk1 use Gtk+-1.x libraries --with-gtk2 use Gtk+-2.x libraries --with-debug enable debug mode --without-debug disable debug mode Then type: make If you don't receive any error message, you can install xfprot typing: make install or make install-strip (to install a stripped version of the binary file). Please remove previous installed version of xfprot with make uninstall (see below). You can uninstall xfprot any time with: su root (and provide root password if prompted) make uninstall USAGE The GUI is self explanatory (.... I hope).
