Table of Contents: 1. Installation Notes. 2. Driver Features. 1 INSTALLATION NOTES 1.1 Before you start IMPORTANT: Make sure you make backup copy of the file /etc/pcmcia/config. 1.2 Build the MWVLAN_CS Driver 1 - Unpack the source files into the wireless directory in your PCMCIA source tree. 2 - In the pcmcia directory run make config to configure your pcmcia package. 3 - In thw wireless directory, run make -f Makefile.mwvlan 4 - Run make -f Makefile.mwvlan install 5 - Open the file /etc/pcmcia/config and make sure to replace each occurance of wvlan_cs with mwvlan_cs. (this should be done automatically in future versions.) 6- Restart the pcmcia services. 2 Driver Features Since the driver is based on the 'wvlan_cs' driver, it has all its features with the following additional features: - Provide all the information available from the Lucent Client Manager for Windows (e.g. Signal Level, Noise Level, ...) from all the access points in range using active scanning- see IEEE802.11 standard.) - The driver implements the 'iwspy' option 'ap' which returns the list of access points reached from the card. - Added 'iwpriv' command to enable/disable automatic active scanning. - Added 'iwpriv' command to issue as scan command. - There is a general API that can interface with the driver to get this information to user applications (www.cs.umd.edu/users/moustafa/mapi).
