Release Notes for IDT77222/252 Windows NDIS5 ATM Device Driver, version 1.3 --------------------------------------------------------- (July 28, 2000) 1. Introduction ------------ The software being released is a device driver package that supports the IDT77222/252 ATM SAR VLSIs. This device driver is a NDIS5 Miniport driver and is fully compatible with Microsoft's NDIS5 specification. Please follow Microsoft's recommendations for System hardware and software requirements. 2. Supported Platforms ------------------- The release driver software has been verified in the following environment: - Windows 2000 Operating System (kernel build 2195), both Professional and Server version - IDT7M924SM Network Interface Card (NIC) - IDT77252 Rev. C ABRSAR - Systems with a single CPU 3. Description of contents ----------------------- - Collection of header files i252receive.h,i252proto.h,i252adpt.h,idt252sw.h,base_types.h,bitfield.h, i252smap.h,i252txconn.h,resource.h,debug.h,i252sreg.h,i252ver.h - Collection of functional files i252receive.c,i252ndis.c,i252conn.c,i252mem.c,i252Util.c,i252Send.c, Bitfield.c,i252eeprom.c,i252ratetbl.c,i252txconn.c,kernelStuff.c,debug.c, i252request.c,i252Init.c,i252isr.c, - Driver executable file indis252.sys - Install information file neti252.inf - Release note file (What you are reading now!) readme.txt 4. Quick Installation ------------------ 4.1 Preparation - Download .zip file from IDT Website - Decompress files using Winzip.exe - Copy indis252.sys and neti252.inf to floppy diskette 4.2 Hardware Installation - Power down the Win 2000 system - Open the computer case, install the IDT 7M924SM NIC hardware 4.3 Driver Software Installation - Please note you must logon as the system's "administrator" to be able to install since the driver is not certified by Microsoft yet - Apply power to the system - Windows 2000 detects new hardware - your IDT NIC - Answer "yes" to install the new hardware - Insert the driver diskette (step 4.1) into floppy drive (a:\) - Set the driver software search path to a:\ - Windows 2000 will copy driver install files to appropriate system folders - Click "finish" when Win2000 signals the successful completion of install 4.4 Installation verification - Connect cable to ATM Switch or other NIC - Make sure "green" LED is lit at the edge connector plate; if the LED is dimmed, try to flip the 'xmt' and the 'receive' fiber - Click the "My network place" icon - Select the "Network and Dial-up connection" option on the left-hand side pane - Make sure you see both the 'ATM Connection' and the 'ATM Elan Connection' icons - Click the "ATM connection" icon - Verify from the 'ATM connection status' dialog box the following information to determine the status of the installation - The install is a success if you are able to confirm that the ATM connection speed is 135.6 Mbps, and that the activity counters for packet sent and packet received are incrementing properly. This indicates that the NIC is alive and is transmitting as well as receiving packets from the network! 5.
