--How to setup and use 1. Unzip the sample. A two zip files and this readme.txt are included. The zip files contain a C# (SilverlightMapTemplateCS.zip) and VB.NET (SilverlightMapTemplateVB.zip) Visual Studio project template designed to be deployed with a Visual Studio 2008. 2. Copy the both zip files to the Visual Studio 2008 template folder for the user profile of your choice. For example, copy it to C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\ProjectTemplates. 3. Start Visual Studio 2008 and create a new project. Under project type select Visual C# or VisualBasic and the project template "ArcGIS Silverlight Map" will be listed under the "My Templates" section of the New Project dialog. Select it and click OK to create a new project. 4. When prompted to add a Silverlight application, select "Add a new ASP.NET Web project to the solution to host Silverlight". A Web project will be created for you. 5. A security warning may prompt you to trust the new template. Click Trust. 6. After the applications load, open the Silverlight application and remove references to the ArcGIS Silverlight assemblies (ESRI.ArcGIS*). Readd references to the ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.dll, ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Bing.dll, and ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Toolkit.dll you downloaded from the ArcGIS Server Resource Center: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/ 7. Run the application. The template starts with a Map control that contains a single ArcGIS Server layer from ArcGIS Online. Feel free to customize as needed. 8. To change the path to the ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight assemblies permanently within the template, unzip the project template zip file to a working folder of your choice. Open the project file (e.g. for C#, ArcGISSilverlightMapTemplate.csproj) in Visual Studio and change the references to ArcGIS Silverlight assemblies to match those on your machine. Save the project. In the working folder delete the bin and obj folders, as well as any solution related files (.sln, suo). Combine all the remaining files into a new zip file. Note the zip file must contain template contents at the root, do not include the folder containing the template contents. Follow step 2 above to deploy the template zip for use with Visual Studio.
