"Linux Shells by Example" by Ellie Quigley ISBN: 0-13-014711-7 Script files and datafiles are contained in separate directories for each chapter, chap01 through chap07 and chap09. The first shell script in the book is example 1.6.2; to run it from the compact disk, change directory to chap01 and run file ex1_6.2. You may need to run "chmod +x ex1_6.2" first to ensure that it has execute permission. Likewise for the other script files. NOTE: Some of the early scripts, such as ex1_6.2, send mail to a list of persons specified in the file called "guests" which is provided in the same directory. To test these scripts, you may want to change the names in file "guests" to just contain your e-mail address. NOTE: The filenames for the sample code on the CD-ROM for Chapter One of the book correspond to the section numbers wherein those examples are discussed. For example, file Ex1_6.2 corresponds to the example discussed in section 1.6.2 of the book. HAPPY SHELLING!!
