news ==== [IRIX](http://www.sgi.com/products/software/irix/) had a [news(1)](http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/tpl/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?coll=0650&db=man&fname=/usr/share/catman/u_man/cat1/news.z&srch=news) command to keep the user informed of current events. Think of it as a /etc/motd capable of displaying multiple messages on demand and if requested by the user.
