EXECUTABLE CODE --------------- This directory contains executable versions of the Kakadu demonstration applications. The applications are "kdu_compress", "kdu_expand", "kdu_transcode" and "kdu_show". Support is offered here for the following platforms (you will have to build the source yourself, if your platform is not in this list). Win32 Systems (Windows 95, ***, 2000, NT) ---------------------------------------- Executables of all applications are located in the "win32" directory. These have been built for use with an MMX-enabled processor. Be sure to put all files (including the DLL) in a directory which resides within your executable path (usuall a "bin" directory). It is possible that you will need to install the two system files provided in "win32/system_files" in which case you should follow the directions given in the README file found there. Do this only if one or another of the applications complains that a system DLL is missing. Linux Systems ------------- The executables contained in the "linux" directory have been dynamically linked against the shared libraries which come with GCC version 3.0. If you have an older version of GCC or these shared libraries have not been built or located in the relevant path, you may need to use the statically linked executables, which are found in "linux_static". Note that these executables have been built for use with an MMX-enabled Intel processor, or equivalent. Note that the "kdu_show" application is available only with Win32 systems. Note, however, that all the key operations are performed using platform independent code, so you should be able to build your own interesting viewing applications for Linux or other operating systems. Solaris Systems --------------- The executables contained in the "solaris" directory have been dynamically linked against the shared libraries which come with GCC version 3.0. If you have an older version of GCC or these shared libraries have not been built or located in the relevant path, you may need to use the statically linked executables, which are found in "solaris_static". Note that these executables have been built for use with the Sparc V8 architecture. Older architectures may not support the integer multiply instruction, in which case you will have to build the source yourself, using the supplied make files. Note also that the Solaris executables have been built and tested under SunOS Version 5.7. USEFUL POINTERS --------------- You are strongly recommended to read through the usage statements provided by the programs provided here and to consider the numerous usage examples supplied in the file, "Usage_Examples.txt". For your convenience, the usage information supplied by the "kdu_compress", "kdu_expand" and "kdu_transcode" applications has been pre-formated into PDF files which appear in the present directory having the obvious names. The PDF files also provide other general introductory information for the programs.
