1. Launch OPNET 12.0. 2. Change the "mod_dirs" preference to include the name of the folder containing the project files. 3. Open the project "WiMAX_net.prj". The project includes various scenarios to evaluate and compare the performance of WiMAX against ADSL with respect to streaming a 2hr MPEG-4 encoded Matrix III movie: 15 scenarios are included in this model which includes various model validation scenarios as well as 6 variations of the primary scenario using different base station buffering sizes and simulation durations. Primary scenarios: (A) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 128KB buffer 2hr - primary scenario in the model. It streams the Matrix III encoded as MPEG-4 over a 2 hr duration. (B) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 1024KB buffer 2.5hr - tuned version of the primary scenario in the model to reduce base station buffer overflows during the 2hr movie. The following scenarios are variations of the primary scenario using different buffer sizes and simulation durations. (C) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 256KB buffer 2hr. (D) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 256KB buffer 1hr. (E) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 128KB buffer 1hr. (F) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 128KB buffer 2.5hr. (G) MPEG4 WiMAX ADSL 256KB buffer 2.5hr. (H) MPEG4 ADSL 2.5hr. (I) MPEG4 WiMAX 2.5hr. Validation specific scenarios: (J) Background traffic only. This scenario demonstrates strictly the alternating periods of 10 and 20% background traffic over LAN and WAN links. (K) Background traffic only with increasing growth. This scenario demonstrates strictly the alternating periods of 10 and 20% background traffic over LAN and WAN links. Additionally, this background traffic will increase by 10% every 30 minutes. (L) Validation Incoming ADSL. This scenario models unidirectional uncompressed video traffic sent from the VoD server to the ADSL client station. (M) Validation Outdoing ADSL. This scenario models unidirectional uncompressed video traffic sent from the ADSL client to the VoD server. (N) Validation Incoming WiMAX. This scenario models unidirectional uncompressed video traffic sent from the VoD server to the WiMAX client stations. (O) Validation Outdoing WiMAX. This scenario models unidirectional uncompressed video traffic sent from the WiMAX clients to the VoD server. 4. Scenarios utilize the video trace files: T2.csv and Matrix.csv. Note: Some of the variation scenarios did not always produce repeatable results. This "instability" may be attributed to OPNET Modeler version 12 bugs according to OPNET technical support. Therefore, such behavior should disappear if the model is converted to OPNET 14.
