Readme STIHRS v. 0.2.0 STIHRS is able to read handwriting from both scanned images and from a touch screen. In order to do this, though, the program must first be trained to your handwriting. To do this, put handwriting into the active area (the upper large area) by either writing into it using a touch screen or the mouse, or by loading a bitmap file (.bmp) or an ink stroke data file (.isd). Then, put the matching text into the text area (the lower large area) by either typing into it or importing a text file. Click on the "Train" button to have the program learn using the writing that you gave it. Then, to have the program read a piece of handwriting, write or load the writing into the text area and click the "Read" button. The result should appear in the text area. STIHRS contains a number of additional features. It is able to remember your style of handwriting so that you don't have to train it again each time you run the program. It can also export this information to a writer file and and import it later, so that you can transfer your writer data from computer to computer. It also is able to run scripts, making automated recognition and testing much easier. This program is subject to the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License, which is found in the file copying.txt. This program uses the en_US dictionary included in OpenOffice.org 2.0, which is registered under the GNU Lesser General Public License, which can be found at http://www.openoffice.org/license.html. The dictionary included the following message: This dictionary is based on a subset of the original English wordlist created by Kevin Atkinson for Pspell and Aspell and thus is covered by his original LGPL license. The affix file is a heavily modified version of the original english.aff file which was released as part of Geoff Kuenning's Ispell and as such is covered by his BSD license.
