This file contains instructions for installing and running the FlashFX Design Ready Kit for the Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Third Party Solutions program. What is the FlashFX Design Ready Kit? ------------------------------------------- This kit is designed to get FlashFX up and running on Windows CE in a matter of minutes. Full documentation is supplied in PDF format. Closely following the documentation is critical to correctly using FlashFX. This is a fully-functional, limited edition of FlashFX designed to work with Intel J3 Strataflash or AMD compatible parts in a 2x16 configuration. The maximum disk size is limited to 1MB of usable disk space. Contact Datalight for more information about flash memory solutions for a wide range of flash parts, and larger disk sizes. How to use FlashFX ------------------------------------------- Add FlashFX to your platform from the Component Catalog (Third Party\Device Drivers\Storage Devices). Configure the "Start", "Length", and "Format" registry entries in the FLASHFX.REG file located in the 3rdparty\Datalight\FlashFX directory. The "Start" and "Length" settings are hexadecimal values that specify the linear start address and the length of that portion of the flash array to be utilized as a FlashFX disk. These values must be aligned on 256KB boundaries. The flash memory hardware must be accessible through an uncached memory region. For this kit, the "Length" value should be set to 100000. This will use 1MB of flash memory, and provide a 768KB disk. FlashFX also requires a file system. Either FATFS (from Microsoft) or Reliance (from Datalight) are acceptable. However, when using Reliance, change the "DefaultFileSystem" registry entry in FlashFX.reg to "RELIANCE". IMPORTANT: It is vital that you properly specify a starting address and length that points to a range of flash that is available for use. If you accidently specify an address range that conflicts with the system boot loader (for example), you will likely render your system unbootable. Set the "Format" value in the registry according to the following values: 0 Never format the disk (the default) 1 Automatically format the disk if FlashFX detects that it is not valid 2 Format the disk every time the system starts up Refer to the Datalight website for more documentation on using FlashFX with Windows CE.
