README.TXT for Interim Zinc 6.0 for Tornado 2.2 workaround 07/01/2003 1.0 INTRODUCTION This is an unsupported workaround for an interim solution to provide Zinc 6.0.1 capability within a Tornado 2.2 environment. This workaround is for both WindML 2.0.3 and Zinc 6.0.1 (Zinc 6.0 CP1) allowing then to operate within a Tornado 2.2 environment. 2.0 INSTALLATION This workaround is not compatible with WindML 3.0 and if WindML 3.0 was previously installed then it must be uninstalled prior to the installation of this patch. Due to a limitation in the SETUP program, it is only possible to uninstall WindML automatically if it was the last option which got installed in the Tornado tree. If this is not the case, refer to the manual procedure of removing WindML 3.0 from your Tornado tree (section 6). This patch is intended to be installed over an installation of WindML 2.0.3 and Zinc 6.0 with Zinc 6.0 Cumulative patch 1. Steps to use this patch are: 1. Install WindML 2.0.3, Zinc 6.0, and Zinc 6.0 Cumulative Patch 1 2. Install the patch from the base of the Tornado 2.2, for example, if your host is Solaris: % cd $(WIND_BASE) % tar -xf zinc60t22.tar 3. Rebuild WindML and Zinc 3.0 CHANGES This package has the following changes from WindML 2.0.3 and Zinc 6.0.1: 3.1 Location of Objects and Archives The archives are objects are located within the directories: - WindML archive $(WIND_BASE_/target/lib/$(CPU_FAMILY)/$(CPU)/common/libwndml.a - WindML object $(WIND_BASE_/target/lib/$(CPU_FAMILY)/$(CPU)/common/wndml.o - WindML examples $(WIND_BASE_/target/lib/obj$(CPU)$(TOOL)Apps - Zinc archive $(WIND_BASE_/target/lib/$(CPU_FAMILY)/$(CPU)/common/libzinc.a - Zinc object $(WIND_BASE_/target/lib/$(CPU_FAMILY)/$(CPU)/common/zinc.o 3.2 BSP Interface The low level input drivers (keyboard and mouse) must be built into the VxWorks image. Tornado 2.2 provides drivers for typical input drivers that would be used by WindML. Included are drivers for: - PC style keyboard - PS-2 mice - USB keyboards - USB pointers - Serial mice To use these drivers, your BSP must include a sysWindML.c file that provides the linkage between the hardware and the device driver. Again, most BSPs for Tornado 2.2 includes a sysWindML.c file. If your BSP does not include a sysWindML.c file, then you will need to create one if you plan on using the standard input drivers that are shipped with this release. For details on development of a sysWindML.c file for a BSP, please refer to section 12.2 Hardware Abstraction Layer within the WindML 3.0 DDK Programmer's Guide. 3.3 USB Keyboard/Mouse Support This release has provisions for an application to use a USB keyboard and mouse as the input device. 4.0 Documentation The WindML 2.0 and Zinc 6.0 documentation should be used for development of applications. All APIs are compatible with those described in those guides. 5.0 Limitations This release is not a full featured release of Zinc for Tornado 2.2. It consists of a port of WindML 2.0.3 and Zinc 6.0.1 to Tornado 2.2. The basic functionality of these products have been verified. However, this patch has not been tested on all configurations (processors and graphics devices) that are supported by WindML 2.0.3. If you need support for a specific issue to this workaround, please contact your local Wind River Sales office which can offer special consulting services and provide technical support for special issues regarding this workaround. General WindML/Zinc questions or issues which can be verified on an officially supported combination/configuration will continue to be addressed through the standard Wind River support channel. 6.0 Manual removal of WindML 3.0 If WindML 3.0 was installed and a manual removal is required, then perform the following steps: 1. Remove the directory $(WIND_BASE)/target/h/ugl 2. Remove the directory $(WIND_BASE)/target/src/ugl 3. Remove the file $(WIND_BASE)/target/config/comps/vxWorks/03windmldev.cdf 4. Remove the file $(WIND_BASE)/target/config/comps/vxWorks/02windml.cdf
