INSTALLATION NOTES ===================== 1.1 General information ----------------------- PowerLogic 5.0.1 was developed for Windows ***, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. This release is designed as a front-end design capture product for use with PowerPCB 5.0.1. 1.2 Installation Help --------------------- For complete Installation Help press F1 during installation. You can also access Installation Help before you install by choosing Help on the Autorun screen that appears when you insert the distribution CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 1.3 Installation preparation ---------------------------- Before you install: - Back up any libraries that contain custom parts you created. - Back up any critical design files on your system. - If you do not want to continue using your existing version of PowerLogic, uninstall it. - Disable virus shields and screen savers. - For Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 users, you must have full administrator privileges on your system to install PowerLogic. - Un-install any older versions of PowerLogic that you do not wish to keep. - If not preserving an existing version of PowerLogic, it is recommended to install PowerLogic into the default directory. - It is recommended that you do not use spaces in directory names. 1.4 Using multiple versions of PowerLogic ----------------------------------------- This section is for users who want to install PowerLogic 5.0.1 and keep previous versions of PowerLogic. Note: In previous versions, you could install the same version of PowerLogic in two different directories. For example, you could install PowerLogic 4.0.1 in the directories C:\padspwr and C:\padspwr_2, and both instances would work. In version 5.0.1, this will NOT work. You can, however, install version 5.0.1 in the directory C:\padspwr501 and version 4.0.1 in C:\padspwr. In this case, both versions will work. PowerLogic 5.0.1 uses the same directory structure, executable name, and .ini file name as previous versions of PowerLogic. To preserve the integrity of an existing version of PowerLogic, including its directory structure, you will need to make specific choices while running the installation procedure: 1. When installing PowerLogic 5.0.1, stop at the dialog box that asks for the Setup Type (Typical, Compact, or Custom). Specify a directory into which to install PowerLogic 5.0.1. This directory must be different from the existing version of PowerLogic. For example, if your existing version of PowerLogic is installed in c:\padspwr (the default directory), then install PowerLogic 5.0.1 into a different directory, such as c:\padspwr501. Note: Do not use spaces or periods in directory names. 2. Continue installation. When you are prompted to select a program group into which to install PowerLogic, set one that is different from the one used for your existing version of PowerLogic. For example, if your existing version of PowerLogic is installed in "PowerLogic", install PowerLogic 5.0.1 into "PowerLogic 5.0.1.". You can use spaces and periods in program group names. Note: Because the file structure of the powerlogic.ini has changed, do not use the powerlogic.ini file from a previous version of PowerLogic with this version of PowerLogic or vice-versa. Using an older powerlogic.ini with the latest PowerLogic version or the latest powerlogic.ini with a previous PowerLogic version may cause system failure and other anomalies. 2. RELEASE INFORMATION ====================== 2.1 Major Updates ----------------- 2.1.1 ECOGEN New controls have been added to both the Forward ECO command and the OLE PowerPCB Connection, to provide more control over renaming of parts and nets. 2.1.2 Rules update to support PowerPCB 5.0 and 5.0.1 - Drill-to-copper clearance added to the Clearance rules matrix. - Text row removed and drill row added to the Conditional rules matrix. - Routing rules updated to replace copper share with trace and via share. - Routing rules updated to remove horizontal and vertical length minimization. 2.1.3 PDF output no longer creates separate files for each schematic sheet Multi-sheet schematic printing to Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Writer now outputs separate pages within a single PDF file instead of creating separate PDF documents for each schematic sheet. 2.1.4 Installer has been updated The installer has been upgraded to match PowerPCB 5.0 and provide increased compatibility with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. 2.2 Software Availability ------------------------- This release is available as a download from our Web site and also on a CD. To request a CD, contact your local sales representative, or go to http://www.mentor.com/supportnet and complete the form. 3. TUTORIALS ================ The Tutorials and associated design files walk you through a complete schematic flow using PowerLogic. The tutorials, tutorial_logic.pdf, is located in the C:\padspwr\LogicDocumentation directory. Note: The tutorial is a PDF (portable document format) files. To view and print these files you need Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader, which is included on the distribution CD-ROM. Install the Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Autorun screen. 4. DEFECTS ========== 4.1 Advisories -------------- Advisories for PowerLogic are available in the advisories.txt file on the root of the distribution CD-ROM. 4.2 Corrected defects --------------------- For a complete list of corrected defects, see customer_fixes.txt located on the root of the distribution CD-ROM. 5. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION ============================ 5.1 Loading older designs ------------------------- PowerLogic 5.0.1 can open the following file types without conversion: - PADS-Logic 4.0 .txt and .sch files - PowerLogic 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, and 4.0 .txt and .sch files To open a schematic design (.sch) file created prior to PADS-Logic 4.0: 1. Load the .sch file into PADS-Logic 4.0 or PowerLogic 1.x. 2. Save the file in PADS-Logic 4.0 or PowerLogic 1.x .sch format. 3. Open the .sch file in PowerLogic 5.0.1. 5.2 Translating designs to earlier versions of PowerLogic --------------------------------------------------------- PowerLogic 5.0.1 will export only 4.0 and 5.0 format ASCII files. To translate data to a version earlier than PowerLogic 4.0 format: 1. Import the file into the PowerLogic 4.0 application. 2. Export the file to PowerLogic 3.5 or 3.6 format. 5.3 Parts library format ------------------------ Parts libraries are provided with PowerLogic 5.0.1. These libraries are the same as those shipped with PowerPCB 5.x, PowerPCB 4.x, and PowerLogic 4.x. You do not need to translate libraries from PowerLogic 4.x to 5.x. 6.
