Reed-Solomon Compiler v3.4.0 readme.txt This readme file for the Reed-Solomon Compiler includes information that was not incorporated into the Reed-Solomon Compiler User Guide v3.4.0. Before installing the compiler, ensure you have read the information in this readme.txt. This file contains the following information: o Package Contents o Tool Requirements o MegaCore Function Directory Names o Project Name & Top-Level Entity Name o MegaWizard Plug-In Manager Copy Function o Preliminary Support for Lower Number of Check Symbols o ModelSim Simulation Models o Regenerating the Reed-Solomon Library o Release History o Contacting Altera Package Contents ================ Reed-Solomon Compiler v3.4.0 Reed-Solomon Compiler User Guide v3.4.0 Tool Requirements ================= This compiler requires the following software: o Quartus II software version 4.0 or higher o Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or higher, for viewing PDF documentation o Netscape Navigator version 4.7 or higher on computers running a supported version of the RedHat Linux or Solaris operating systems for following web links or viewing this readme within IP Toolbench MegaCore Function Directory Names ================================= The default directory for your MegaCore function is c:\megacore, but you can specify an alternative directory. Note: the directory name must not contain spaces, or the MegaWizard Plug-In will not work. Project Name & Top-Level Entity Name ==================================== If your Quartus II project does not have a revision with the same name as the project, the wizard cannot add to your project the files that are required by the MegaCore function. This situation can occur if you specify a different top-level entity name from the project name in the Quartus II New Project Wizard. Therefore, when you use the Quartus II New Project Wizard, use the same name for the project name and the top-level entity name, and a revision with the same name as the project is created automatically. If you have an existing project where there is not a revision with the same name as the project, follow these steps: 1) Open the project. 2) Choose Revisions (Project Menu). 3) Click Create. 4) Enter the original project name in the revision name box. 5) Turn off Set as Current Revision. 6) Click OK and click Close. MegaWizard Plug-In Manager Copy Function ======================================== The MegaWizard Plug-In copy function does not work properly. If you select the "Copy an existing megafunction variation" on page 1 of the MegaWizard Plug-In Manager, IP Toolbench does not create a new variation based on the values specified by an existing variation, it creates a new variation based on default values. You may need to modify these values to suit your requirements. Preliminary Support for Lower Number of Check Symbols ===================================================== The standard continuous decoder incorporates preliminary support for two check symbols (the lower limit is usually 4 check symbols). Contact Altera if you wish to use this feature. ModelSim Simulation Models ========================== The ModelSim simulation models included with this MegaCore function may only be used with the ModelSim simulation tool version 5.7c and higher. If you are using a previous version of the ModelSim simulator, please download the latest version from: www.model.com (PE and SE versions) www.altera.com (ModelSim-Altera) Regenerating the Reed-Solomon Library ===================================== The VHDL model has been compiled using the ModelSim-Altera simulation tool version 5.7c. Depending on your current ModelSim version, you may need to regenerate the ReedS library before running a simulation. Check your ModelSim installation readme file to see whether you need an update. If so, the ReedS library can be refreshed by executing the following command: vcom -work \ReedS -force_refresh Please refer to your ModelSim user manual for further details. Release History ================ Version 3.4.0 ----------- Support for Stratix(TM) II devices. Support for IP toolbench.
