================================================================================ SUMMARY: This model will create an ASCII traffic file that can be imported into a network as routed background traffic. REQUIREMENTS: No Compiler - OPNET 7.0.B, PL9 or higher, October 2000 Models, Windows NT Compiler - OPNET 7.0.B, PL4 or higher, any model release, any platform ARCHITECTURES: Solaris Windows NT/2000 MODEL_NAME: Traffic Builder CREATION DATE: 10/27/2000 Modified 11/24/00 by jstrohm ================================================================================ DESCRIPTION: Use this model to generate traffic between source and destination pairs. The resultant traffic file can then be imported into the networks to mimic traffic patterns and represent background loading on a network. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Model File Installation: 1) Unzip the files into a new directory. 2) Launch OPNET and select the Edit->Preferences pulldown menu. 3) Find the attribute called "mod_dirs" and left click the value column. 4) Insert a new entry and specify the full path to the new directory. Icon Installation: 5) Find the attribute called "icon_dbs" and left click the value column. 6) Insert a new entry and specify "trafbuild". Repository Installation: If no compiler exists on your system, you can use the supplied respositories: 7) Find the attribute called "repositories" and left click the value column. 8) Delete any existing repositories. 9) Insert a new entry and specify "trafbuild" 10) Click OK out of all the preferences dialog boxes. MODEL USAGE: The goal of the model is to provide a means to specify traffic volumes between source and destination nodes for importing as background traffic. This can be accomplished in the following way: 1) Open a project to create background traffic for. 2) Open the palette called "Traffic_Builder". 3) Place a "Traffic_Builder" object into the workspace. 4) Edit the attributes to define specify the traffic characteristics. 5) Run a simulation and the traffic file will be created. IMPORTING TRAFFIC: Once the traffic file has been created, the traffic will need to be imported into the network. Do the following to import the traffic: 1) Make sure the preference called "traffic_archive_dir" points to the directory containing the created ASCII file or a parent directory to that directory. 2) From the project, select Network->Import Traffic->Import Conversation Pairs... VIEWING TRAFFIC: Once the traffic has been imported, it can then be viewed. Do the following to view the traffic: 1) From the project containing the imported traffic, select Network->View Traffic. 2) Select a source and destination, right click on the destination and select "View Traffic". NOTES: When selecting a source or destination, OPNET will find all IP devices (IP devices are the only devices that can support background traffic creation and sinking) and present every model type in a pull-down menu. The traffic you specify will be between every instance of the source model type and every instance of the destination model type. The only exception is when the source and destination model type are the same: in this case there will not be traffic from a node to itself. The ETS shared libraries supplied with this model have not been created for HPUX or Solaris. If you'd like to create this shared library, do the following: 1) Make sure to have a compiler 2) Enter the directory containing the trafbuild_active_attrib_handler.ex.c file 3) Execute the following command: %> op_mko -type ex -m trafbuild_active_attrib_handler -mod_dirs . %> op_mkso -type repos -m trafbuild_active_attrib_handler.h0.ets.so -f trafbuild_active_attrib_handler.h0.ex.o -mod_dirs . 4) This will create a file called trafbuild_active_attrib_handler.h0.ets.so
