WildPackets - Guideline for using BRCM wireless driver with WildPackets Wireless LAN Analyzers Please refer to http://www.wildpackets.com/support/drivers for the most up-to-date information on supported wireless adapters and drivers. This is a special BRCM wireless driver used with WildPackets Wireless LAN Analyzers. It is used for capturing wireless packets. This driver works as a stand-alone driver and is not digitally signed. List of supported Hardware and Software: 1. BRCM driver version (3.40.100.0). 2. This driver (3.40.100.0) is supported on Windows XP (Service Pack 1), and Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4). 3. This driver (3.40.100.0) supports AiroPeek SE, AiroPeek NX, OmniPeek, and Omni Engine. 4. BRCM wireless adapter: 4306, 4309, 4301 (MiniPCI, Cardbus) IMPORTANT NOTES! The BRCM wireless adapter must be the only 802.11 card installed. Windows Zero Config must be disabled before the driver can be used. Windows 95, ***, ME and NT4 are not supported. Pre-Install Requirement for systems that currently have an 802.11 wireless card installed. 1. From the Device Manager window, select and expand Network adapters. 2. If there are any wireless devices under this category that are not BRCM, or there is more than one 802.11 card, disable and uninstall them. 3. Uninstall all 802.11 card configuration utilities. These types of utilities are sometimes installed when you install the OEM driver provided with the adapter. 4. Windows Zero Config must not have any Preferred networks selected. Go to the Wireless Networks tab in properties for the BRCM adapter and remove all Preferred networks listed. 5. Disable the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration service from the services control panel. Installation - Install the BRCM wireless adapter: 4306, 4309, 4301 (MiniPCI, Cardbus) and reboot. - Windows XP and Windows 2000: To install the BRCM driver, follow these steps: 1. From the New Hardware Wizard, click on 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)', and then on Next. 2. Click on "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and then on Next. 3. Click the Have Disk button. 4. Browse to the folder where you unzipped the driver and select the .inf file. 5. Click on Open and then OK. 6. Choose the appropriate manufacturer and network adapter (or Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network Adapter) and click on Next. 7. Click on Yes to continue the installation if you receive a message saying 'Installing this driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware.' 8. Click on 'Continue Anyway' to continue the installation if you receive a message saying 'The software you are installing for this hardware: '...' has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP'. 9. Click on Finish to complete the installation and close the properties window. 10. Select Yes to reboot if asked. If not asked, we recommend that you reboot the computer anyway. Uninstallation: To uninstall the BRCM driver, reinstall the OEM driver. Known Problems and Limitations: 1. Network services are not available while using this driver. If network services are required, the only workaround is to roll back the driver. On Windows XP: . Go to Start and select Control Panel . Open Network Connections . Right-click the appropriate wireless driver and select properties . Click Configure and select the driver tab . Click Roll Back Driver On Windows 2000: . Reinstall the OEM driver. 2. Correct channel selection may not occur in Peek for some adapters when selecting a channel by BSSID or ESSID. There is no workaround at this time. Driver Limitations: - This Driver works only for Wireless capture. It can not be used for Network Services. - All 802.11 utilities, physical devices, and drivers must be removed to allow installation of the driver. This includes physically removing non-BRCM built-in MiniPCI adapters and stopping the wireless zero configuration service.
